Murkrow is a Dark/Flying-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. This avian Pokémon is known for its mischievous nature and association with bad luck. Murkrow has black feathers, a crooked yellow beak, and three feathery tufts on its head resembling a witch's hat. Its red eyes with white sclerae give it a somewhat ominous appearance. Murkrow's tail feathers resemble the bristles of a broom, adding to its witch-like image. Interestingly, the feathery crest on its head is smaller in females compared to males.

This nocturnal Pokémon is known for its fondness for shiny objects, often engaging in battles with other Pokémon like Meowth or Gabite to acquire their treasures. Murkrow has a reputation for leading travelers astray on dark mountain trails, either as a prank or to protect itself when chased. Despite its negative reputation, Murkrow has been known to give shiny objects as presents to Trainers it likes.

Habits and Additions Across Generations

In earlier generations, Murkrow was feared and loathed as a bringer of bad luck. There was even a protective incantation, "Workrum, Workrum—bad luck, don't come," used to ward off misfortune caused by seeing a Murkrow. In later generations, it was revealed that Murkrow can be trained to repeat words, similar to real-world crows. Murkrow often live in flocks (referred to as "murders") in forests and swamps. In some regions, there's a saying, "Get home before the Murkrow fly," indicating their nocturnal nature.
