Ledian is a Bug/Flying type Pokémon introduced in Generation 2. Known as the Five Star Pokémon, it has a unique appearance resembling a humanoid ladybug with four arms. Ledian's most distinctive feature is the pattern of spots on its back, which are said to grow larger or smaller depending on the number of stars visible in the night sky. This nocturnal Pokémon uses starlight as energy, fluttering about at night and scattering a glowing powder that is believed to bring good luck.

Despite its appearance, Ledian is known to be a weak fighter. It compensates for its lack of power by throwing rapid barrages of punches with all four of its arms. Interestingly, Ledian's antennae are shorter on females than on males, providing a way to distinguish between genders. In addition to starlight, Ledian also loves to eat berries.

Ledian's habitat typically includes temperate and tropical forests, where it sleeps during the day wrapped in leaves or grass. Its affinity for clean air environments has led to the belief that Ledian can be found in large numbers in areas with unpolluted skies full of stars.

Pokédex Entries Across Versions

  • Gold/Silver: When the stars flicker in the night sky, it flutters about, scattering a glowing powder.
  • Crystal: The star patterns on its back grow larger or smaller depending on the number of stars in the night sky.
  • Ruby/Sapphire: It is said that in lands with clean air, where the stars fill the sky, there live Ledian in countless numbers. There is a good reason for this—the Pokémon uses the light of the stars as its energy.
  • Sun/Moon: While it's believed that starlight provides it with energy, this Pokémon also loves to eat berries. In the daytime, it curls up in the grass to sleep.

Evolutions

Ledian evolves from Ledyba starting at level 18.

Habits and Additions Across Generations

In Generation 2, Ledian could not learn any Bug- or Flying-type moves, limiting its ability to utilize same-type attack bonus (STAB). This was addressed in later generations, with Bug-type moves added to its learnset in Generation 4 and Flying-type moves in Generation 7. The Pokémon's connection to stars and its unique appearance have led some to draw comparisons to alien-like creatures, adding an intriguing element to its design.
