Pupitar is a Rock/Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It is the second stage in the Larvitar evolutionary line. Pupitar is encased in a hard, grayish-blue shell that is comparable in hardness to bedrock. Despite being confined within this shell, Pupitar can move freely and has outstanding destructive power. Its red eyes are visible through two holes in the shell, with two more holes above resembling eyebrows.

This Pokémon has a unique method of locomotion. It creates a gas inside its body, which it compresses and forcefully ejects to propel itself like a jet. This propulsion is so powerful that Pupitar can launch itself like a rocket and even topple mountains with its thrashing. The body of Pupitar is incredibly durable, able to withstand collisions with solid steel without damage.

Pupitar is known to be a troublesome Pokémon that can't wait to evolve. It relieves its stress by wildly propelling itself around using compressed gas. Even when sleeping, Pupitar continues to move around. It inhabits harsh mountain ranges and can be found in cave-like environments.

Pupitar is in the Monster egg group. It can breed with compatible Pokémon to produce Larvitar eggs. Some of its egg moves include Ancient Power, Assurance, Curse, Dragon Dance, and Iron Head.

Pupitar evolves from Larvitar at level 30 and evolves into Tyranitar at level 55.

In later generations, more details about Pupitar's behavior were revealed. In Pokémon Sleep, it was mentioned that Pupitar moves around even when sleeping. The Pokédex entry in Ultra Sun describes it as a troublesome Pokémon that can't wait to evolve, relieving its stress through its unique propulsion method. Its habitat has been expanded to include various cave-like areas in the Grand Underground in recent games.
